Moulins du Nil Blanc (MNB Ltd) was recently spotlighted by the World Resources Institute (WRI) for our zero-waste agricultural model in the Rubavu District.
The feature highlights how our founder, Zilipa Nyirabyago, tackled the financial challenges of single-harvest coffee farming by turning community “waste” into a valuable resource. Instead of discarding coffee pulp, MNB Ltd transforms it into a nutrient-rich substrate to cultivate oyster mushrooms for local and export markets.
By turning spent mushroom substrate into organic compost for coffee trees, and reusing plastic materials for seedlings, we have successfully created a true circular economy that brings year-round income and improved nutrition to the region.
